A ballad lament

Oh why have You forsaken me?
You’ve left me all alone.
Oh can’t You hear my cries of pain,
My soul in anguish groan?

Oh why have You forsaken me
When I cry out to you?
By night and day I find no rest
Although I trust in You.

Oh why have You forsaken me?
Upon Your Throne so high
Can You see me way down here?
Can You hear my cry?

Oh why have You forsaken me
And scorned to speak to me?
I am a worm and not a man
And everyone mocks me.

Oh why have You forsaken me
My heart has turned to wax
And it has melted in my chest
And froze me in my tracks.

Oh why have You forsaken me?
Deliver me from strife,
Keep me from the villain’s snares,
And grant to me Your life.
