Psalm 35 — An Early Winter Storm

A Ballad

God, let the foe who seeks my life
Be caught in their own snare,
And let them fall into the net
For me they did prepare.

The ones who claim to follow You
But only feign, perform:
God, let them be like chaff before
An early winter storm.

When they were sick, I prayed for health,
For their recovery,
And now, they wish for my downfall —
How quickly turned on me.

They mock my heart, my soul, my love
For I don’t fit the “norm.”
God, let them be like chaff before
An early winter storm.

Oh, let those who rejoice at my
Abuse be quite ashamed.
Let their disgrace be clear to all
For they are to be blamed.

They came against me, claiming You
Endorsed their ruthless swarm.
God, let them be like chaff before
An early winter storm.
