When countless evils circle me
To sport with me like a plaything
Until I cannot lift my head,
You’ve given me new songs to sing.

You do not covet sacrifice
Or crave a burning offering,
But glory in my happiness,
In giving me new songs to sing.

I will not restrain my voice
To tell of You and everything
That You have done for me, O Lord,
Along with those new songs to sing.

Esther learned to read when she was four years old, and began writing shortly thereafter. She is a queer Christian poet, crafting with words to create art and music.
