Oh, daughter, listen to my lesson:
Be glad, my child, rejoice!
For this is God, the face of Heaven;
Oh, sing! Oh, lift your voice!

The city is magnificent,
The joy of all the earth,
Attired, gilded as a bride
Ready to come forth.

Her light is like a precious stone,
Her crown of purest gold,
Her toes and fingers drip with jewels,
A rainbow to behold.

Oh, daughter, listen to my words:
Be glad, my child, rejoice!
For this is She, the Bride of Christ;
Oh, sing! Oh, lift your voice!

She wears a vivid jasper stone,
And sapphire so bright,
A cloudy chalcedony gem,
An emerald alight.

Sardonyx orange and red and brown,
And sardius intense,
And chrysolite or peridot
She spares here no expense.

Topaz, beryl, chrysoprase,
And jacinth, amethyst,
Then myrrh and aloes, cassia
Anointed on…
