A Ballad

If there is evil in my heart,
Please rip it out, Oh God.
Tear out the roots and till the soil,
And cover it with sod.

In You, Oh Lord, I put my trust:
Deliver me from me
That I may live at peace with all,
And love my enemy.

Oh Lord my God, if I have hurt
Someone without cause,
Correct me, Lord, and chastise me.
Oh God, please give me pause.

If there is evil in my heart,
Please rip it out, Oh God.
Tear out the roots and till the soil,
And cover it with sod.

And when the garden of my heart
Is cultivated well,
Oh come and walk with me each day;
Together we shall dwell.

If there is evil in my heart,
Please rip it out, Oh God.
Tear out the roots and till the soil,
And cover it with sod.

Esther learned to read when she was four years old, and began writing shortly thereafter. She is a queer Christian poet, crafting with words to create art and music.
