Psalm 70 — By Your Name

A Kyrielle

A lion with head thrown back roaring, and a small child smiling while hugging the great cat’s neck.

Oh God, let those who scorn my life
Be shocked, appalled at their own shame;
Let them be dazed and at a loss
That they would ever claim Your Name.

When they despise me for myself,
And try to lay on me all blame,
I call on You for You will save,
For I was baptised by Your Name.

But I am poor and needy, God;
Do not delay, do not disdain
My hope in You for I depend
On You to live up to Your Name.

I will rejoice, be glad in You,
For You will save me once again;
You will draw near, deliver me,
And You will call me by Your Name.
