Psalm 79 — How long, Lord?

A girl holds her hands to her face while tears stream down her cheeks. Behind her is the ruins of a building.

Oh God, Your holy temple they defile;
Our death, destruction, murder they applaud;
If we survive, they kick us out, exiles.
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

How long, Oh Lord, will they devour us?
And they desire that we are outlawed
For we’re too vulgar even to discuss.
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

Return to them, Oh God, what they have dealt,
And tear away their crumbling façade,
And by Your mighty arm let them be felled.
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

Oh God, Your holy temple they defile;
Why should the nations say, “Where is their God?”

Esther learned to read when she was four years old, and began writing shortly thereafter. She is a queer Christian poet, crafting with words to create art and music.
