A Ballad

God, I will sing of You forever;
Who is like You, God?
Your mercy and Your truth endure;
Beside You I am awed.

How long, oh Lord, will I be crushed,
And cast down to the ground?
My enemies gloat at my fall;
Oh, will I not be found?

My guards and shields have been consumed;
My house is robbed and burned;
They pile upon me shame on shame;
Oh, God will You return?

How long, oh Lord, will You withhold
Your comfort and Your hand?
How long will I walk through the flames?
For I have been condemned.

Remember, God, how short my time:
Can I escape the grave?
Oh God, where are Your promises
To guard me and to save?

God, I will sing of You forever;
Who is like You, God?
Your mercy and Your truth endure;
Beside You I am awed.
