“Fake News” Proponents Basically Just the Adult Version of “La La La, I Can’t Hear You,” Study Confirms

The results of an MIT and Harvard joint study, published today, have confirmed the not-so-vague suspicions that those that resort to justifying their argument by striking down facts against it with a cry of “fake news” just have a horrible argument that was likely wrong in the first place.

The term, made popular by Donald Trump during his bid for the U.S. Presidency in 2016, has become somewhat of a global rallying cry for those wishing to impose their thoughts and opinions on others, irregardless of their objective truth.

The study, which involved trawling through terabytes of Twitter and Facebook data to fact check and find common patterns, as well as engaging hundreds of psychologists, children and paediatricians, came to the conclusion that screaming “fake news” is basically the adult version of blocking your ears and yelling “La la la, I can’t hear you, la la la, I don’t care.”

“Let me first acknowledge that some news organisations in the past — ones that lean on both sides of politics — have found to have spread news that is either false or hyperbolic,” said Dr Jane Danzig, the study coordinator, in a statement. “But that’s no reason to discredit an entire industry.”

She continued: “Overwhelmingly, we found the rallying cry ‘Fake news’ is just a lazy way of arguing a shit point. Or arguing literally no point at all.”
