Falling Fast


It was not volatility that led to his eventual demise; people constantly in volatile situations learn to adapt, to alter, to change the situation — to cling on. It was a life of certainty, of consistency and smooth reliability that heralded his downfall, for when it all crumbled, he could not reach quickly enough for the edge of the cliff. He was already falling fast, weightless in the air, nothing to save him from the jagged rocks and churning water below.
