Ranking old timer, Frank Tillerson, has seen and done it all. Yet in the twilight of his life, when it comes to dinner, he has once again refused to have anything but a mountain of salt with an overdone steak and three vegetables for dinner.

Despite his daughter’s fantastic attempt at slow-cooked rogan josh, complete with homemade papadums, Mr Tillerson has remained strong (or stubborn, depending on who you ask) with his choice of dead cow, potatoes, beans and carrots.

“Dad, let me do the carrots in honey, at least,” pleaded his daughter, who is loath to see her father consume bland vegetables when they could be made more palatable to his tongue.

“No thanks Jeanne. Pass the salt, please,” said Mr Tillerson. His granddaughter, six-year-old Scarlett, also raised her concerns. “Grandpa,” she posed, “Mummy’s jogan rosh is really good.” She giggled at her spoonerism, once it had become apparent to her.

“Thank you Scarlett, but Grandpa doesn’t much go for ethnic food,” said Mr Tillerson, still grinding away on the salt shaker.
