Brash young Melbournian, Scott Mackay, has had a keen eye on the Hong Kong protesters fighting against the infamous Chinese extradition bill, which has since morphed into a larger statement about democracy for the semi-autonomous city.

He has even gone out to voice his opinion in online forums from the safety of his share house in gentrified Richmond.

Now, with his impending four-week holiday in Northern Africa approaching, he is getting concerned that his planned layover in Hong Kong might result in some longer-than-expected delays, meaning he might miss some of his hard-earned leisure time wandering bazaars in Morocco.

“I hope they just figure it out, you know?” he said to his roommate while they watched the latest of the violent clashes on the nightly news. His thoughts have since curdled further about the whole freedom and democracy thing as the whole movement has showed no signs of slowing down any time soon.

“It’ll just be really annoying if I miss any of the tour,” he grumbled to a work colleague, who nodded along without tuning in to the conversation.
