The Monsters on Maple Street

On March 4, 1960 The Twilight Zone aired “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street.” This episode is a perfect analogy of American politics.

What we see is a suburban street with the typically large number of people outside depicted in such stories. A meteor appears to pass overhead and then nothing works. The lights are dead, there is no electricity. Cars won’t start and people gather trying to figure out what went…
