ATLANTA — After missing the majority of the 2018 season, star running back Devonta Freeman has had a myriad of health issues preventing him from seeing the field. The Falcons have sorely missed his presence, as they are one of the worst teams in the NFL when it comes to rushing yards. With lasting injuries to his knee, foot, and groin, Freeman has seen little progress towards leaving the sideline any time soon. In light of this, the news came on Monday afternoon that the Falcons would be making the decision to terminate the life of their running back to prevent further suffering as his body deteriorates.

“We wanted to make the most humane decision possible,” a member of the Falcons management disclosed to us. “He was a great player and teammate, and having to put him down leaves us with heavy hearts.”

Freeman boasted 865 rushing yards in 2017 despite also having to manage some injuries, and was projected to be a top running back in the league this season. These hopes were dashed when one ailment after another crippled his body into a mash of corroded joints and bones. Teammates reported a lack of focus during many of their weekday practices over the season due to Freeman, who was often heard squealing in pain behind the bench.

“This is never a decision that any NFL team wants to make,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn explained. “We know that it will be very hard for his family when they find out, and we wish them the best.”
