Suspended above the sideline, analyst Booger McFarland contemplates his inescapable prison

LOS ANGELES — The new home of Monday Night Football, ESPN has been doing its best to set its broadcast apart from other networks. Joe Tessitore and Jason Witten have drawn controversy over their competence as game commentators, and many of the techniques the broadcast uses have been unsettling to viewers. But perhaps the strangest decision by the network was to take their two-time Super Bowl winning analyst Booger McFarland and suspend him in an outdoor crane during MNF, instead of indoors with the other analysts. McFarland has provided commentary from the contraption all season, but this past week he finally cracked during the broadcast.

“Get me the f*** out of here!” Booger yelled as he desperately writhed around and shook the bars of the cage around him. “I can’t take this bull**** anymore! Get me out of this goddamn crane!”

ESPN quickly cut McFarland’s mic and panned to their other analysts, as Jason Witten attempted a joke about how growing up he “wanted cranes for arms” or something. But the network was ultimately unable to stop the outburst by their analyst hovering 15 feet above the sideline. Booger was later heard over his microphone in between plays begging ESPN to let him out of the metal rig.

“I’m dying up here. This is an agonizing hell. I’ll do anything, please just get me down.”

After many weeks of sitting outdoors in the freezing cold while his colleagues enjoy a nice warm announcing booth, McFarland decided enough was enough. No one knows if or how Booger was able to exit the crane, or how long the network intends to keep him in it in the future. It is clear, though, that Booger McFarland has had it.

ESPN did not comment on this story.
