On Thursday, May 2nd, a group of approximately 20 seniors from Sci-Tech High School participated in a lock-in event that turned into a memorable senior prank. The lock-in, which started around 6:30 PM and ended the following day, was supervised by teachers Flores, Rozsypal, Cox, and Res.

A group of smiling seniors from Sci-Tech High School pose together with Ms. Flores in front of Mr. Sosa’s office door, which is filled to the brim with colorful balloons as part of their memorable senior lock-in prank. The students’ expressions show a mix of excitement, camaraderie and a hint of mischief as they prepare to close the door, completing their clever surprise for the unsuspecting principal.

Unbeknownst to campus principal Mr. Sosa, the seniors had planned a prank to fill his office with blown-up balloons and decorate the windows with post-its displaying “2024.”

Senior Yaquelin shows off her lock in pride with various colored sticky notes.

“It was a senior thing. If you’re a senior, you know. It was really fun — for the senior experience. I stayed up all night.” — Allegría De Leon

The next morning, Mr. Sosa arrived at his office only to find it filled with a sea of balloons, much to his surprise. The seniors’ prank had been executed flawlessly, leaving the principal both amused and impressed by their creativity and dedication.

Sci-Tech High School seniors collaborate during a memorable lock-in event to fill Principal Sosa’s office with colorful balloons and decorations.

Throughout the night, students engaged in various activities, including a train game, hide-and-seek, gossip and even an impromptu rave with a big speaker playing “Baby” by Justin Bieber. Stephanie Hernandez particularly enjoyed the hide-and-seek part of the night.

The lock-in took an unexpected turn when a group of seniors snuck out and placed “weenies on a stick” in the school’s lawn.

During the senior lock-in, a group of mischievous students snuck out and planted hot dogs on sticks in the school lawn, arranging them to form the number “24” as a nod to their graduating class. The clever prank added an extra layer of fun and creativity to the memorable night, showcasing the class of 2024’s spirit.

Another unexpected turn took place when the boys encountered a rattlesnake in their sleeping quarters, causing them to run out screaming around midnight.

Alex, one of the seniors, claimed he remained unfazed, stating, “I wasn’t scared. I wanted to grab it. I ran out because everyone was having serious conversations.”

While some seniors managed to get a bit of sleep, many pulled an all-nighter or barely slept at all.

“This lock in was very chaotic and splendid at the same time.” — Arleny Morales

During the senior lock-in, students found various ways to pass the time and enjoy each other’s company. Some relaxed in cozy nooks, like the student slouching in an office chair with a gaming controller or the two girls resting on a cushioned bench, one smiling at the camera while the other napped.

Although not all seniors attended the lock-in, with Jordy admitting, “I didn’t go because I liked my bed a lot,” those who participated created lasting memories and a unique bonding experience before their graduation.

“It was fun. I hope prom is just as fun.” — Yaquelin

As the seniors eagerly anticipate their upcoming prom this Friday, they are left wondering if it will measure up to the excitement and camaraderie they experienced during the lock-in.

The bar has been set high, and many are curious to see if the prom will be able to deliver the same level of fun and lasting memories.
