What I Said

I hear your voice, echoing down these halls,
A sound that fills me with remorse, that’s all.
Everything, I know, was meant for me,
But your words — they pierce much deeper than
What others say, what others mean.

I’ve tugged at my hair, undone my bows,
All for a smile from you, just one, to show.
Yet, you turn away, your face a mask,
Pretending for them, an effortless task.

Confused, I ponder what I said,
In the end, I’ll shoulder the blame instead.
Willing to make amends, to be the one
Who fixes what’s been undone.

Words etched forever in my mind,
Feeling worthy, then worthless in kind.
Oh, what a dreadful, tangled mess,
Spawned from words I confessed.
