The lack of diversity in Computer Science
This summer in our Computer Science class we learned how to use a program called snap. This program was basically a step up from Scratch. We all wished to have learned to use something new but we didn’t. Using this program we created a number of projects that let our imagination become reality. One project that we made included diversity and music combined
Diversity in Computer Science fields is slowly increasing but still a huge gap. The major problem is the stereotype that only white males can pursue this career but that is all false. Us women have the same capability to pursue this job and it s my dream to create the diversity just like there is diversity in music.
The project we created was about the diversity in music. Piano Keys was created by two female of color that are from first generation, that alone shows the capability of women in tech. This project promotes diversity in general, it promotes that diversity should be everywhere and not only in music. Music is a very diverse area, there are a variety of female singers and male singers, this should be an example how to get other work areas diverse. By creating programs that will push STEM careers, especially Computer Science.
