Short of breath just because you climbed two flights of stairs lately? Are you waking up tired? Can’t even komole at owambes because you have a weak core? Don’t worry, it’s not old age. You’re just suffering from a classic case of an unbalanced diet, and I assure you that it is possible to eat better, even here in Nigeria.

Here are 8 affordable ways to eat better:

  1. Drink Water
Drinking water is cheap. You can afford to drink lots of it. That’s the first step.

I believe in you.

2. Eat Fruit
They’re easy to chew, don’t leave you feeling like you just need to crash on the bed, and most importantly, are cheap!

You better!

3. Cook Your Own Food
You can’t control everything, but at least you can control the kind of water you use, the freshness of your ingredients and the quality of the oil. Plus these are things you already have in your pantry.

That’s the spirit!

4. No Late Dinners or Midnight Snacking

If you don’t want that stomach pouch to get bigger, stay away from late meals. That’s lack of discipline my friend!

Fight the pouch!

5. Reduce Traffic Food
The gala, the deep fried plantain chips and the fanyogo are not the best for you darling. Popcorn is the way. It’s cheap, has fewer calories and is a whole grain snack.

This is you right now.

6. Try Mylk (milk from plants)
We eat a lot of dairy in this country, especially cow’s milk, which is high in fat. Meanwhile, two coconuts cost what? NGN400? Just blend the flesh and strain the “mylk”!

Don’t worry, it’s delicious!

7. Practice Moderation
You don’t need to eat 3 packs of poundo, egusi, 2 pieces of beef, one ponmo, one goat meat, one shaki, and one small croaker, all because you’re “enjoying life”. Right after all that, you push the plate away and sleep for 3 hours.

Na only you waka come?

8. Avoid Sodas
Empty calories are calories from foods that have no other added nutrition, especially from sodas. Why not blend your excess fruit at home and drink calories that still have vitamins and minerals on top?

Kill any empty calories lately?

Finally, you’ll see that you feel better, have more energy and don’t have to waste NGN1,500 on chicken and chips everyday.
