Is This The Right Time?
To quit your job for your business?
It was a statement that our CEO made at the “Honest Conversations With Money” event at the LifePointe Church yesterday that spurred this thought.
He said to get a lower paying job: yes, you read right! You must be wondering why too.
Now get this, you’re the one man who wants to fill the roles of about 4 people that you could’ve hired at the start of your solo journey. How would you know what’s coming if you haven’t taken up work that involves execution, strategy, communications, developing power points, negotiation and what not if you are operating at a managerial level for example? This basically means you are skimming and supervising, not getting knee deep into it.
Here are some more questions that you need to ask yourself before you decide to quit:
- How much Should You Have Saved Up?
If you make the decision to start a business today, it means you’re in actuality, going to start in March of 2019. Give yourself these 18 months to save up for your business. It’s not going to be easy if you don’t.

2. Can You Invest Some Of Those Savings?
If you don't trust yourself to be disciplined, try investing in say, a marketplace, or with an investment bank, where you get 18% interest on your investment.

3. Are You Just Being Impulsive?
Are you just miserable at your current job? Is this making you to think that you want to start your own business? Writing a solid business plan can force you to have a second thought, and stop any impulsive thinking.

4. Do You Have A Back-up Option?
Developing a plan B before going off on your own will help you avoid getting blindsided. Is there something you or your money can do to temporarily bring in cash?(see #2)

5. Can You Live Cheap?
Can you get a house mate? Cook your own food? Drink less expensive coffee? Shop only once a year? If you can’t do these, then #1 will be nearly impossible.
