Adversity is a good barometer of an individual’s ability to succeed in high-pressure situations and it can even add to your self-belief when you successfully overcome those hardships. Unfortunately, most people either never experience a turbulent moment or they don’t have the mindset that makes them believe that adversity is a precursor to success.

While some people may literally need to get punched in the face to have a moment of realization, most of us need difficult moments to harden our minds, so when we encounter more difficult challenges, we are well prepared.

Anyone who has lofty ambitions will ultimately encounter a tumultuous moment on their path that will test their character, their drive and most of all their mental toughness. We often grow up hearing that hardships suck and that we should avoid them at all costs, but I believe that we should embrace them. Not because we are crazy and love stress, but because they are tremendous opportunities for growth. Embracing those challenges and hardships may lead to failure, but overcoming those failures can turn out to be some of the greatest learning experiences. It could be overcoming a physical pain such as cancer or pushing yourself to the brink while in the weight room. These mentally testing situations will ultimately lead you to a stronger mind as well as a better understanding of how to tackle these problems in the future.

So instead of deflecting those challenges, you should face them head-on, regardless of what you feel the outcome may be.
