Stop Making Sexy Vampires

Will Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” put this obnoxious trend in a coffin once and for all?

Robert Eggers’ long-awaited Nosferatu is almost upon us, and I only have one thing to ask of this film — please slay the idea of sexy vampires.

Luckily, Eggers is keen on this mission. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker said:

“The evolution of the cinematic vampire, from Max Schreck to Edward Cullen [Robert Pattinson’s character in the Twilight series] … vampires are no longer scary. These early folk vampires were not suave, pale-skinned aristocrats in dinner jackets. They were bloated, nasty, rotten corpses.”

As a fan of Eggers’ work, I think he’s more than up for the task of stripping the vampire of its dashing demeanor and recognizing it for what it truly is — a fucking monster.

I sure hope so, because I’ve got my own gripes with sexy vampires.

They’re cliched
