#ProTops Primer: Oh, Canada!
It’s Week 4 of the NFL season and Week 15 of the CFL season. Why does that last part matter? That’s where we kickoff our Primer this afternoon…
Antwane Grant, Saskatchewan Roughriders (at Ottawa Redblacks, Fri. at 6:30 p.m.)
The Roughriders are looking to claw their way into the playoffs (actually, as of now, they would be in the playoffs via the “Crossover,” which evens out a three-team playoff for the two divisions with a five-team West and a four-team East), and sit at 6–6 through 12 games this season. They’ll head to the nation’s capital to take on the defending champs to look to move above .500, and our favorite Canadian player, Antwane Grant, will get the starting nod this week.
Grant is in the “Slotback” position, and is getting the start due to an injury to the Riders’ leading receiver, Naaman Roosevelt. Grant has appeared in four games so far, and has totaled five recpetions for 62 yards. It’ll be worth watching to see if the Riders use Grant often or if he’s literally there to be a body on the field (I’m hoping for the former).
The game will be available on WatchESPN.com.
Jack Doyle, Indianapolis Colts (at Seattle Seahawks, Sun. at 7:30 p.m.)
The good news is the Colts have won a football game! The bad news is it took playing the Cleveland Browns and it was a three-point victory. But, a win is a win is a win.
Doyle was targeted five times but caught just two passes for 16 yards.
You’ll be able to see him in action on Sunday Night Football. My fantasy team (I have Russell Wilson at QB) is begging for a blowout, but if Doyle can have a breakout game, I wouldn’t hate that either.
Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (at Dallas Cowboys, Sun. at 12 p.m.)
If you had told me the Rams/49ers would have been one of the most entertaining games of last week, I’da slapped you silly. But, you would have been right. Unfortunately, Higbee didn’t have much of a part in the 80-point output, catching just one ball for for yards.
As the weeks pass, it seems the Rams are going to rely elsewhere on the field, and Higbee, while a nice asset, isn’t a top producer for LA.
They’ll head to Jerry World on Sunday.
Taywan Taylor, Tennessee Titans (at Houston Texans, Sun. at 12 p.m.)
A win on Sunday, and the Titans are 2–0 in AFC South play.
Taylor caught two passes for 16 yards on three targets and even had a rush to his name (that he lost a yard on) in the Titans’ win against Seattle, who’s defense looked pretty stout against Green Bay in Week 1.
