Former Western Kentucky outfielder Jacob Rhinesmith has been named a 2018 New York-Penn League All-Star.

Rhinesmith, who was drafted in the 18th round by the Washington Nationals, has done nothing but rake for the Auburn Doubledays. In 42 games, he’s slashing .303/.381/.426 with a home run and 24 RBI.

Rhinesmith has played in the second-most games for Auburn, and has the second-best batting average of any player who has played at least 25 games.

He also leads the ‘Days in a lot of other categories…which I’ll let WKU baseball tell you about.

The NYPL All-Star Game takes place next Tuesday, August 14, which will be held in State College, Pennsylvania, where former Hilltopper Danny Hudzina played his Low-A ball two years ago.

Rhinesmith is the first ProTopper to be named an NYPL All-Star since the aforementioned Hudzina, who made the 2016 South roster as an infielder.

As it currently stands, Auburn is in second place in the NYPL Pickney division, 1.5 games behind Mahoning Valley. Auburn holds a 28–22 record.
