Today is the deadline for NFL teams to make all final roster cuts and get their squad to the 53-man rosters for the season to begin later in the week.

And, while a large chunk of the cuts will come today, some teams went ahead and let some not-so-on-the-bubble guys go. Three former Toppers were apart of that, as Prince Charles Iworah, Bobby Rainey and Steve Donatell were all let go.

Honestly, only one of these moves really surprised me, and that was PCI being let go. He was drafted by the 9ers in the seventh round (pick 249 overall) in the 2016 Draft and spent a majority of last season on the practice squad before being called up to the 53-man squad in December.

Iworah actually is still with the team, he was just placed on injured reserve and the chances he sees any sort of action in 2017 is very limited. I must admit, I didn’t realize that was the case when I originally tweeted it yesterday, but the term they used on the website was “waived/injured,” and it did make me think twice.

Donatell and Rainey, unfortunately, aren’t surprise moves. Donatell didn’t really get much of a look with the Seahawks, and their tight end corps is pretty strong, while Rainey didn’t get much of a chance to show the Ravens what he could do. Many thought he was, essentially, brought on to replace the void Kenneth Dixon left when he was suspended for the season, but Baltimore barely utilized him in the first couple of preseason games, and once he was getting carries in the second quarter this past week, I knew he was done.

It’ll be interesting to see if Donatell can find a spot on a practice squad somewhere and it’ll be really interesting to see if Rainey, who has become something of a professional journeyman, can find a home for the 2017 season.

Unfortunately, I think a few more Tops will be cut before it’s all said and done. While guys like Jack Doyle, Tyler Higbee and even Taywan Taylor are safe, someone like Tyler Ferguson very much isn’t.

What do I have my eye on? What will happen with Omarius Bryant and Darrell Williams, Jr. Both could make the cut. Both could get cut. Both could take the route of Brandon Doughty and find practice squad spots.

What do you think the cuts will be today? If someone is let go, where would you like to see them get signed? Let us know in a comment below, via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page.
