Even if you don’t like football, you’re going to watch tonight’s Super Bowl between Los Angeles and New England. An east coast-west coast matchup between the old guard and the new guard. The storylines are endless, and if you’re a Hilltopper fan, there’s one more to relish in: Tyler Higbee becoming the first ever former Hilltopper to start a Super Bowl.

Game Info

Time: 5:30 p.m. CT
Location: Mercedes-Benz Stadium | Atlanta, Georgia
TV: CBS

When Higbee takes the field tonight, he’ll be the most recent former Topper to play for an NFL title since Rod “He Hate Me” Smart played in Super Bowl XXXVIII with the Carolina Panthers (also, just so happens, to have been against New England. The game was, coincidentally, broadcast by CBS).

Higbee is looking to be the first Hilltopper to be a part of a Super Bowl winning team since Bobby Rainey was a member of the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad in 2012.

While Higbee is just the second-ever former Hilltopper to play in the Super Bowl, there is a third connection — Mel Mitchel was a member of the 2007 perfect season for the New England Patriots, but was left off of the Super Bowl roster.

Regardless, here’s to hoping Higbee makes an impact, just like he did in the NFC Championship game against New Orleans.

If you’re a Rams or Pats fan, enjoy the day. If you’re a Hilltoppers fan, let’s see if Higbee can knock off the Evil Empire.
