If there’s anything that’s more guaranteed than a pre-draft mock, it’s post draft grades! In fact, there may very well be more of the latter than the former.

Anyway, lets take a look at what those post-draft grades said about the Cowboys taking Mike White.

CBS Sports: B

“White has impressive arm talent and gets the ball out quickly. Major problems against pressure.”

SBNation: Fine

The guy put up hilariously prolific numbers in Conference USA

Bleacher Report: B

[…]The sacks and reliance on his supporting cast are red flags, but he checks most of the other boxes: tall, sturdy, live-armed, handled himself well at the Senior Bowl, etc. White’s a standard-issue, mid-major, mid-level prospect. He could get hot and launch a starting career if given a clean pocket and good supporting cast.[…]

Cowboys Wire (USA TODAY): C+

[…] Projected by most to be a premium developmental candidate, and the consensus best available at the position, the Cowboys decided to bring him in as a lotto ticket type of acquisition.[…]

WalterFootball: B-

I don’t like this pick from a needs perspective. The Cowboys already had a solid backup in Cooper Rush. However, I don’t hate this selection either, as Mike White was the top quarterback on the board.

Blogging The Boys: B-

At 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, White is a bigger quarterback who can sling it. With his powerful arm, White can make throws to all levels of the defense, short, intermediate, and deep throws. He did not receive much help from his offensive line, but with more refinement and a better supporting cast he would have a chance in the NFL. The prospect is a good one, but there were more pressing needs at this spot.

I’m not going to lie, a lot of these grades were a lot kinder than I thought they’d be. I thought we’d see more rankings along the lines of where Cowboys Wire went — not saying that White isn’t worth the pick (actually, just about everyone agrees White in the fifth round is a steal) but it didn’t make sense when you have Dak as the franchise quarterback. Though, Blogging The Boys makes a good point when they note there’s not a ton of depth: It’s really just Dak and Cooper Rush on the Cowboys depth chart, so if the worst case scenario comes to fruition, where do they turn to?
