Site News: Come Join The Towel Rack

The last few months — really since the athletics season began — have been awesome for us at The Towel Rack.

We relaunched the site at kind of a strange time — it was around April, the very tail end of the college season — and we somehow cranked out so much offseason content (thank you Mitchell Robinson, for helping) that once the regular season hit, we were in full stride.

I pride ourself, as a site, on the unique perspective we bring. And, the beauty of the site is one writer might think one thing and another might think another — there are very few things we take a “site stance,” on, and that’s awesome.

Since the season started, I couldn’t be prouder of our game coverage, our analysis and the auxiliary coverage we provide (for instance, Ross has been killing it this week, and all year, with his bowl projection and outlook work). We’ve brought on some new names over the last several weeks and they’ve been working their tails off to help make The Towel Rack the premier destination for WKU fans.

And, we want to continue to be the premier destination for WKU fans, while also making our coverage better.

So, I’m asking for your help.

We are in desperate need of a writer. More specifically, we are in desperate need for (at least) two specific writers — a news writer and a recruiting writer.

News breaks at all times of the day and night, but a lot of the “small,” news is broken in the middle of the work day — right when I’m starting my day, and when everyone else on the writing staff is in the middle of theirs. For our news writer, we need someone who’s simply available to hammer out the details.

The Tops have been making shockwaves on the recruiting trail in both football and basketball over the last year and a half, and we want to amp our coverage of it. How that looks will be (partly) up to whoever fills this void, but we know we need more coverage of recruiting.

I know you’re asking yourself several questions — How time consuming will that be? What exactly are you looking for in a writer? So on and so forth. And the honest answer is — it depends on what you’re able to do, what you’re willing to do, and what void you’ll be filling on our team.

But, please don’t let the vagueness hinder your interest. If you are interested, please reach out. You can message us on Facebook, on Twitter or you can message me personally — fletchtopper@gmail.com. Let me know the following:

  1. Who you are
  2. What position you want to fill
  3. Your history with WKU
  4. Your history with writing/blogging

If you have 15 years experience or no experience, it wont matter. We want people who can help us in the future, not folks who have done impressive things in the past.

Also, make no mistake — if you’re brought on to “fill,” one of these positions, you wont be boxed into just that position. Everyone on our staff is a utility player, and if you have other desires, we’ll work them in. So if you want to be a recruiting writer but also write basketball analysis, you’ll be more than able to.

We’re looking to make The Towel Rack the best source for WKU sports on the internet, and we can’t do it without your help.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
