WKU Basketball: Josh Anderson Preseason Preview
Josh Anderson will be a key part of this young Western Kentucky basketball team for years to come. Let’s learn more about him.
Josh Anderson is a 6'4", 174 pound freshmen shooting guard out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Anderson is Western Kentucky’s second highest rated recruit in history and will be the highest to play in a game for the Tops come the start of the season. He was rated the 60th best player overall and the 12th best shooting guard in the 2017 class according to 247Sports.
It’ll come as a surprise if Josh Anderson doesn’t start at shooting guard this season with the absence of Jordan Brangers. He is a high flying athletic slasher who will get to the rim and draw fouls. Don’t be shocked if he baptizes a defender on a dunk a time or two, either.
Anderson will be tasked with locking down each team’s best player as he brings an unmatched athletic ability to the defensive end of the court. He and Lamonte Bearden will be a deadly backcourt duo this year.
Don’t expect Anderson to consistently score 20 every night, but he will see a couple of big performances every couple of games. His biggest problem is his inability to shoot the ball, which may become a liability since this team is lacking shooters.
Ultimately, Anderson will be someone who will show up every game on defense and will have some explosive games on the offensive side of the ball. Hilltopper Hysteria showed us one thing — this team wont lack offense. But the defensive presence of Anderson will be key if it’s going to be a successful year for the Hilltoppers.
