WKU Basketball: Mitchell Robinson Watch

In the early hours of Friday, a couple of tweets began to circulate that began to worry WKU fans.

Immediately, many fans approached Chad Bishop, and while he didn’t deny the claims, he didn’t confirm them either.

With no confirmation from Bishop or Brad Stephens, the news was subsided for a bit. Until around 10:30 a.m.

The Herald’s tweet confirmed the original tweets from early in the morning, but still continued the trend of only on-campus outlets and reporters distributing the information.

Not to say they were wrong, just that those members of the WKU beat who usually are the news breakers hadn’t said anything on the matter.

Then, the first non-campus media member confirmed he had been hearing rumors.

Our pals at 100 Miles of Hate shared this tweet with us soon after we shared Demling’s tweet, which showed Robinson playing a pickup game around 11 p.m. in his home state of Louisiana.

While that didn’t confirm Robinson’s leaving of the program, it did at the very least confirm his absence from Bowling Green. Jeff Goodman then re-entered the fray and posted these tweets.

We were left reading into Goodman’s words, did Robinson leave the program or just go home for the weekend? Inside Hilltopper Sports then put this tweet out there

From there we were resigned to the fact that we had to brace for the probability that WKU’s all-time highest rated recruit wouldn’t be coming to campus. IHS reiterated the credibility of their tweet

As the morning turning into the afternoon, two higher profile sources picked up the story adding more credibility to the news

While Robinson has been quiet from Twitter, he supposedly has been active on Snapchat, although several people are discrediting this claim.

For what it’s worth, we have a writer on staff in a chat channel with Robinson who has refused to claim if he’s staying or going — simply responding with “talk to the coach,” when prompted. The claims of him personally sending Snapchat’s to fans is…well, let’s just say I get the skepticism.

Robinson’s teammate, Jordan Brangers, has taken to Twitter to express his thoughts — not a lot of clarity either way here, but I certainly know which way I lean after reading this.

Meanwhile, Chad Bishop has still been unable to confirm (or deny) anything on the Robinson front, while Brad Stephens is focusing solely on his football recruiting and preview coverage.

Things quieted down until later into the evening, when we got word from multiple places (including a writer on our staff) that Robinson told a GroupMe chat that he was on “vactaion.”

Then, this was sent from Robinson’s Snapchat.

Saturday

Saturday seemed calm and quiet, until Scout’s Evan Daniels dropped some news

But, literally minutes later,

While nothing has officially been said, this has reached far further than any of the previous close calls with Robinson potentially leaving the WKU program. And, as we saw with the coaching carousel from a few weeks ago, the WKU program’s silence isn’t necessary comforting.

This is a developing situation. Be sure to check back here throughout the day as more news comes in, and make sure you’re following @TheTowelRackWKU for information and expanded thoughts.
