The Tops were able to take care of business in their first game against MTSU in Murfreesboro with a solid double-digit win, 82–67.

Four Hilltoppers scored in double figures. Bassey led the way with his tenth double-double this season with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and four blocks. Williams and Hollingsworth both had 15 points and Frampton added 14 points shooting 4-of-8 from deep. Rawls and Anderson also added nine points.

Turnovers were still an issue for WKU as they had 17 but MTSU still had 14 as well. The Blue Raiders were able to keep fighting in the first half and were only down by eight at halftime but after WKU had a 9–0 run midway through the second, they couldn’t close the gap to less than 12 points.

Hilltopper head coach Rick Stansbury did not make the trip to Murfreesboro due to a fever so assistant Phil Cunningham took over head coaching responsibilities and seemed to do just fine running things. He didn’t go very deep into the bench despite a big lead and seemed to be very intent on playing it safe and winning this game.

Game two will be tomorrow at 1:00pm CST on CBS Sports Network. Here are the final stats from the evening:
