WKU traveled to Wisconsin to take on the #4 Badgers to open their season. The Tops hung tough trailing only 7–0 by the end of the first quarter. Buoyed by two long Jonathan Taylor touchdown runs and several missed Red zone opportunities from WKU the Badgers stretched their lead over the rest of the game and closed out the Tops 34–3.

Maine hosted arch rival New Hampshire on Thursday night in Orono. After a scoreless 1st quarter, the Black Bears piled up 22 points in the second quarter with quarterback Chris Ferguson piling up two touchdown passes. Maine added two more scores to route their rival, 35–7, to open up their season with a statement win.

Excitement Level — 8

Any time that football returns home after a long offseason there is bound to be excitement. Getting a pregame concert from Bowling Green’s own Cage the Elephant add another dimension to this game. The Tops showed just enough last week to hope this game will be a breakout game of sorts for Mike Sanford in his second season. The Black Bears will be no pushover but this is a great opportunity for WKU to make a statement that last year is in the past and they’re ready to show the fans they can have faith in the team moving forward.

Go Tops! This should be a great day to pick up a win and get the fans back on board with the program. If you’re in Bowling Green send us your tailgating pictures via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page and we’ll share.
