Last Week

WKU traveled to Marshall for the Moonshine Throwdown. WKU committed turnovers on their first two offensive drives that resulted in two Marshall touchdowns as WKU fell behind 17–0 early. WKU would add a score to cut the lead to 10 but Marshall would add a field goal to lead 20–7 at the half. The Tops would fall behind as much as 16 but would rally scoring touchdowns by Ty Storey & Gaej Walker following a field goal by Cory Munson to tie the game at 23 with 6:19 remaining. Both teams would sputter on their next drives and Marshall would take over at their own 13 with 1:21 remaining. Marshall would then quickly march into field goal range as Justin Rohrwasser would drill a 53 yarder as time expired to send WKU home with a heartbreaking 26–23 loss moving them to 5–3 on the season.

FAU visited hapless ODU. The Owls jumped all over the Monarchs scoring 14 first-quarter points which would be more than enough as the Owls outgained ODU 430–204 in what turned out to be a 41–3 route of the Monarchs moving to 5–3 on the season.

Last Meeting

Last November WKU traveled down to Boca Raton to face FAU. Despite only being down 10–9 at the half, familiar struggles persisted in the second half as FAU ran for 315 yards and WKU’s offense couldn’t finish drives in a 34–15 defeat moving WKU to 1–9 on the season.

Excitement Level — 8

If the Tops would have won last week this game would have been a 10 but we’ll have to settle for an eight now. FAU is still one of WKU’s top challengers for the east division and the loser effectively is eliminated from Conference Title supremacy. Add in the fact that the winner will clinch bowl eligibility with a win and the Lane Kiffin factor and this is probably the best remaining home game of the season. We’ll see if Tyson Helton can get his team back on track before an out of conference opportunity against reeling Arkansas next week.
