The 2020 Hilltopper season ended like it started as WKU’s inconsistent offense couldn’t sustain drives causing the defense to suffer as the Hilltoppers closed the season with a thud during a 21–39 loss.

The Hilltoppers started the scoring on a 14-play 80 yard drive punctuated by a Tyrrell Pigrome touchdown run.

From there it was all Panthers as they went on a 21–0 run and took a 27–7 lead into the half.

The Hilltoppers answered out of the locker room as Geaj Walker cut the lead to 13 on a 2 yard touchdown run.

From there it was all GSU as they stopped WKU on a goal line attempt that could of made it a one score game.

The Panthers would rack up 484 yards of total offense as they would roll to a 39–21 Win as the Hilltoppers would end the 2020 season at 5–7.

Here are some quick thoughts on the disappointing end to the season:

  • Tyrrell Pigrome shouldn’t be the starter moving forward. Today he was as his worst as he finished 17–33 for 180 yards and his first two interceptions of the season. At his best he’s a game manager at his worst he struggles to keep the offense consistently moving and puts the defense behind the eight ball. Look for Helton to bring in a quarterback to replace him and hopefully develop one of the long term freshman (Ocean or Robison) to take the helm of the offense.
  • CJ Jones put up 57 yards on 5 carries, he could be a big rotation player next season with Gaej Walker’s probable departure
  • Josh Simon finally had his best game of the season with 4 catches for 84 yards let’s hope this is the future more than the exception moving forward.
  • No way to spin it the 2020 season (5–7) was a massive disappointment. Tyson Helton has alot to prove to into his third season.

We now move onto the offseason with a terrible taste in our mouths. WKU has to rewrite the narritive and regain the momentum heading into the 2021 season.

Here are your final stats from a disappointing end to the 2020 season.
