After finishing the regular season with three straight wins, WKU has had to wait a week to hear their postseason fate. Tonight they learned they’ll be traveling to Mobile to face Georgia State in LendingTree Bowl on December 26th.

The game is at 2:30 CT on ESPN and will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, the home of the Senior Bowl. Here is some more information about the bowl.

Georgia State finished the regular season at 5–4 (4–4 in the Sun Belt). They closed out the regular season with an impressive 30–24 win over archrival Georgia Southern. This is a rematch of the 2017 Cure Bowl in which the Panthers handed the Mike Sanford led Hilltoppers a 17–27 Loss.

Overall the series is tied at 1–1 (the other meeting was in 2013). This is the perfect matchup for the Hilltoppers. It is a winnable game against a team that had a very similar season to WKU. The Panthers started off slow but finished with wins in 3 of their last 4 games.

With a win, WKU has the opportunity to close out the 2020 season at 6–6, which is no small feat considering they started 2–6. While some fans may say that they’re undeserving at 5–6, I think WKU earned the right play in a bowl game. They probably would have beaten ODU if they didn’t cancel their season(which would have gotten them to bowl eligible in a normal year). Also, WKU is one of only a few teams to play their complete schedule and have won three in a row. I’m excited to see if this team can finish what they started and carry some momentum into the offseason.

This is WKU’s 7th bowl game in 9 seasons (9th bowl-eligible season in 10 as well), which is no small feat for a school that has been FBS since 2007. Let’s all enjoy one last football game and watch several departing seniors one last time.

Tune in for more coverage of the LendingTree Bowl as well be providing previews, q&a’s, in-game tweets, and a recap of the matchup against Georgia State.
