Former Western Kentucky thrower Jessica Ramsey has qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games after setting a U.S. Olympic Trials meet record Thursday en rotue to winning the women’s shotput event.

On her fourth attempt of the day, Ramsey threw 20.12 meters (60' 0.25", for those of you non-metrically inclined, such as myself) to secure her spot on Team USA.

Ramsey entered the final round in second place after throwing 18.82 meters in the qualifier.

While on the Hill, Ramsey logged seven individual Sun Belt titles, including winning the indoor and outdoor shot put titles in 2013 and 2014, as well as winning the weight throw, discus and hammer in 2014.

In that 2014 season, Ramsey became the first ever Hilltopper track and field athlete to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in at least three individual event.

Ramsey is the first WKU Olympian since the Toppers had three representatives in the 2016 Rio Games: Emmanuel Dasor (Ghana, 200 meters), Michelle Finn (Ireland, 3,000 steeplechase) and Shadrack Kipchirchir (USA, 10,000 meters)
