WKU head coach Mike Sanford and Co. have kept the recruitment train pushing full-steam ahead with the class of 2018 this month, and the newest addition is Illinois linebacker Mario Wright II of Homewood-Flossmoor High School.

After including WKU in his final top six schools and cryptically tweeting coach Sanford yesterday, Wright committed to the Tops over Syracuse, Western Michigan, Wyoming, Northern Illinois, and Miami of Ohio.

According to 247Sports, he is a three-star recruit and is the #40 overall inside linebacker and #23 overall in the state of Illinois in the class of 2018. He’s a hard-hitting linebacker that the WKU coaching staff should love, especially WKU linebacker coach Maurice Crum. Wright is now the highest ranked recruit in WKU’s 2018 class so far and is their ninth three-star recruit, currently giving them the #2 class in the C-USA right behind Louisiana Tech. Here are Wright’s highlights:

Wright should fill a major position need for WKU in 2018 and could be a major factor on WKU’s defense early on in his collegiate career. With high-caliber players like Wright coming to the Hill, Sanford could end up putting together WKU football’s best recruiting class in the modern era. #ThePursuit18 is coming together quite nicely and hopefully it doesn’t stop here.

What do you think about the commitment of Wright? Do you think he could be an instant-impact player in 2018? Let us know in a comment below, via twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page.
