Despite the ongoing recruiting dead period due to coronavirus, Rick Stansbury continued to add impact players for the future as Birmingham power forward, KeShawn Murphy pledged his commitment to the Hilltopper program:

Murphy is a 6'9 220-pound power forward that just completed his junior season at Ramsay High School in Birmingham. He led the Rams to a 25–9 record. He averaged 18.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 blocks was first-team All-State in 2019–20.

He is a three-star recruit in the 2021 class according to Rivals and unrated by 247 Sports. He chose the Hilltoppers over Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State & UAB. Beating out those regional power conference schools is another huge coup for Rick Stansbury.

Murphy brings much-needed size to the Hilltopper program that only has Carson Williams, Charles Bassey, and Isaiah Cozart currently on the roster. We’ll see if Stansbury pushes him to reclassify but he’ll be a low post centerpiece for the foreseeable future along with Cozart. Here are some highlights from a 2020 game:

He is the second commitment for 2021 joining 4-star guard Zion Harmon. After a slow period of recruiting Stansbury has picked it up over the past two months and is getting his mojo back. We’ll continue to monitor Murphy’s reclassification potential as his size is much needed immediately.
