WKU Recruiting: Rick Stansbury Adds 2018 JUCO Power Forward

On Saturday night, amidst more Mitchell Robinson rumors, Coach Stansbury and staff jump-started their next recruiting class with a Juco commitment.
Western Kentucky landed its first commit of the 2018 class, Matthew Horton.
Horton is a 6'11", 230 pound power forward who is transferring from Shelton State Community College. He chose the Tops over Georgetown, Arkansas, and Middle Tennessee State University.
Last season at Shelton State Community College, Horton averaged 5.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game, and shot 67% from the field while only playing 1.7 minutes per game. Here are his High School highlights:
Horton holds the potential to be an outstanding player for the Tops. He is a great rim protector who can go up for big dunks. He is not C-USA ready just yet, after a full year to work on his game expect him to be polished and ready to potentially start.
Horton will not be eligible until the 2018–2019 season which will work out perfectly with Dwight Coleby and Justin Johnson leaving plenty of frontcourt playing time after this season. And, of course, the return of Mitchell Robinson.
What do you think about Horton’s commitment? What kind of impact will he have during his first season? When will Stansbury pull in another recruit? Let us know in a comment below, via Twitter at @TheTowelRackWKU or on our Facebook page.
