On Saturday morning, WKU Football got their first commitment in the 2020 class as Bowling Green offensive lineman, Colt Jackson pledged to join Tyson Helton’s program.

Jackson is a 6'4 255-pound offensive lineman that starred on South Warren’s 15–0 5A State Championship team. He isn’t rated by any of the recruiting services yet (neither was Clayton Bush who turned into a 3-star) and his only other offers are from FCS Jacksonville & Morehead State, he has the frame to grow into a solid FBS lineman. Here is his highlight tape:

Jackson was a high school teammate with incoming freshman Clayton Bush and South Warren is the same program that produced Protopper Joel Iyiegbuniwe. It is great to see Helton continue to bring in local talent, recent players like Ta’Corian Darden, Nacarius Fant, Jordan Meredith, and Iggy have shown that they can play vital roles in WKU’s success. Getting a player from an elite program such as South Warren also doesn’t hurt with Helton’s quest to bring back WKU’s winning culture.

While WKU football has offered plenty of potential playmakers for the 2020 class they weren’t able to close on one until Jackson’s commitment. We still don’t know if Helton’s recruiting strategy is more like Jeff Brohm’s (secretive) or Mike Sanford’s (more open) so this is a great start. Let’s hope there is are more to come over the coming weeks.
