After going a perfect 3–0 in the first week of competition, the WKU Volleyballers saw their ranking go from 22 to 19 in the country in the AVCA Week 1 poll.

The ranking is the highest for WKU Volleyball since the first week of the 2013 campaign.

On Friday, WKU opened its 2016 campaign in Athens, Ohio for the Bobcat Invite. The Lady Tops ousted the home team in game one, winning 3–1 in the Battle of the Fight Songs.

On Saturday, WKU swept a doubleheader, winning in straight sets against Villanova and trumping (no, not that Trump) Florida Gulf Coast 3–1 to close out their day.

Not only did the Lady’s win out in the invite, but also stole a few individual honors. Alyssa Cavanaugh was voted the tourney MVP, and Sydney Engle along with Rachel Anderson were dubbed among the all-tournament team.

The accolades didn’t stop there, as Cavanaugh was named the Conference USA Player of the Week, while pre-season CUSA Player of the Year Jessica Lucas was named Setter of the Week.

Not a bad way to start for the defending conference champs, eh?

Travis Hudson’s squad is back in action tonight, just down I-65 against Austin Peay. It’s the 41st meeting between the two schools in program history, with the Tops handling the series 29–11.

The match starts at 6 p.m. and @WKUVolleyball on the tweets is where you’ll get all the real-time info.
