Capcom doubles down with Capcom Fighting Collection 2
Nostalgia and cashing in on rereleases is a move that makes too much sense for publishers. Riding the hype from its announcement of the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, Capcom has served up another heaping helping with Capcom Fighting Collection 2.
The greatest era of fighters returns
The news came amidst a deluge of other announcements on August 27, 2024. There’s no release date aside from the vague “2025” and no price point, but I’d wager it’s between $40-$50 as those are the respective prices of Capcom Fighting Collection and Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. What we do know are the eight included titles and a few of the features.
- Capcom vs. SNK: Millenium Fight 2000 Pro (2001)
- Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millenium 2001 (2001)
- Capcom Fighting Evolution (2004)
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER (2001)
- Power Stone (1999)
- Power Stone 2 (2000)
- Project Justice (2000)
- Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein (1998)
It’s the turn of the millennium and Capcom is experimenting with new franchises and formulas, tasking its developers with creating titles to gobble quarters using existing arcade boards. Little did we know that bookmarking Y2k would be some of the best fighters the genre would ever see.
If you missed them the first time around, now is your time to rectify that. Aside from new features like one-button specials and adjustable difficulty, you can go online and get utterly destroyed by people who never stopped playing and will level you with over two decades of experience.
