Nightmare Difficulty is coming to Wayfinder
Despite the 1.0 release having been released less than a month ago, Wayfinders’ developer, Airship Syndicate, is setting the stage for Patch 1.1. Here’s what we can expect.
Wayfinder Patch 1.1 Preview
The news came via a Twitter post on November 19, 2024. Airship Syndicate has outlined plans for Patch 1.1 in addition to giving an update on Wayfinders’ release on Xbox Series X|S. The latter is still planned to be live by the end of the year alongside the Critical Role Supporter Pack.
Aside from the Xbox release, the biggest news is the addition of Nightmare Difficulty. This promises to be the ultimate challenge as it will be harder than Heroic Difficulty and must be started on a fresh save with no ability to bump down the challenge level.
This is a bit of a monkey’s paw situation as the new difficulty is nice, but it requires players to start an entirely new save. I’m 54 hours in and still haven’t leveled half of the cast to max or completed the main story. The prospect of starting all over again is, to say the least, daunting.
To help incentivize players, Airship Syndicate is including exclusive rewards for completing ultimate challenges on Nightmare Difficulty. Over 35 new items, including dyes, personas, housing items, and empowered artifacts will be obtainable. Once unlocked (aside from the empowered artifacts), these items will be available on any other save files players have.
Finally, the developer provided an update regarding PC mods. Though it had intended for mods to be available by the end of the year, this has been pushed back so the team can focus on the Xbox release and Patch 1.1. I’m thrilled at the idea of official modding support and don’t mind waiting since I’ll be starting a new save within the next month or so.
