Film: Cronos

Today in “Consumed” was the debut feature by master of the imagination and Mexican director, Guillermo del Toro, a film that focuses on decaying relationships and morals — CRONOS. Del Toro uses a tight story, allusion, and muted colors throughout build a horror film that re-imagines the drama.

Del Toro, a man of vast creativity and artistry weaves his most subtle yet yielding exploration into himself with this film. Dedicated to his grandmother as a sign of love, CRONOS weaves a fantastical tale quiet the opposite — cold and dark. Its the tale of an Alchemist who created the a device that yields eternal life except there a rules. One day the Alchemist dies when a building collapses and iron pierces his chest. Forty years later the Alchemist’s device is found and it’s blood thirst unlocked.

If you’re on the search for Dracula style horror told in an imaginative and new way dive in.

PS Ron Perlman is phenomenal and clearly illustrates why him and Del Toro frequently collaborate.

Feeling: Fully satisfied with a red-meat horror.
