Helpful Hints and Reasons for Start-ups to attend Blockchain Events

It’s not really necessary to attend Events… Right?

In today’s world everybody is very busy: We write messages instead of meeting each other, we skype instead of seeing each other and we use the todays possibilities even for business purpose instead of having a face-to-face meeting. The opportunities that social media provides from a professional point of view are broadly based: Nowadays, you can conduct all meetings by skype, you can do your advertisement via social media channels, you can work together, even if your company’s domicile is miles away from your home place. And what’s more, all these activities are almost free of charge, which means you can cover all your business activities by online presence, participation and interaction.

It sounds like everybody could just communicate to a device and be successful in its business. However, this is not happening. Why?

We all have something in common: We are human. We need trust in every kind of interaction. We want to meet someone in person, to make our own impression and to express sympathies. Moreover, meeting people in person makes it easier to discuss a project, to tell your ideas and to interact with your potential customers, strategic partners, influencers and investors. Especially when it comes to new technologies like blockchain and the its social impact, it’s important to exchange and discuss opinions. Many people talk about blockchain and about how it will disrupt various industries, but most of them don’t even know what blockchain is all about and what the social impacts of its potential are. This leads us over to the first reason why events are not a waste of time and money and why they are essential for you and your start-up to attend.

Tickets are sold out — Why is Everybody so into Blockchain Events?

1. Out-of-the-box Thinking — Sharpen your Vision!

Many people describe themselves as out-of-the-box thinkers. We all have heard this saying many times. According to an article by Forbes, neuroscientific researches indicate that the more we age, the more difficult it becomes to break out of existing patterns. However, it is still possible to think divergently. Everyone has a certain and individual way of thinking depending on various social factors. This means, we can only think out-of-the-box, when we meet people with other dispositions.

Where can you meet people with different mind-sets referred to the same interest? At blockchain events!

You will meet entrepreneurs und inspiring speakers. When it comes to the topic of blockchain adoption, you will be able to figure out different points of views and as a result of that to sharpen your own vision!

An idea never emerges out of an isolated mind. There is always an influence of your social environment. Allow yourself to be inspired by other people’s vision and way of thinking. Attending a blockchain event goes even further: The access to news and information is much easier and sometimes even only available on such events.

2. Missing necessary Information? — You don’t want that!

In which industry do other people see blockchain adoption? How long will it take until blockchain reaches mass adoption? What do entrepreneurs think about the future of blockchain and ICOs? Which industries have a potential for blockchain adoption? Why does Half of ICOs Die Within Four Months After Token Sales Finalized? Is blockchain’s adoption even related to its potential?

These are still unanswered questions and you won’t be able to find a satisfying response only by research. You may have an own opinion regarding these questions, but still metaphorically spoken: Two heads are better than one. You need to participate in discussions and to expand your horizon. It will help you to optimize your own concept. Even more: Try to position yourself as a speaker in order to express your own visions and to tell other companies and people how you see the the future of blockchain. The blockchain industry is still growing. Grasp this opportunity to get the attention for your vision and your ideas. Furthermore, try to get connected to people from all over the world.

3. Getting connected to People — Quality is better than Quantity

Blockchain is a decentralized democratized platform, which means it has potential for global purpose and that’s why global companies show great interest in this technology. People all around the world will attend such events, they will connect and increase their communities. When you miss events, you miss one opportunity to build a strong relationship with relevant people. For sure, there are always other opportunities to connect with people from the blockchain sector. But at events it’s much easier to connect, because all sector-specific participants are at the same time assembled at one place. People that attend such an event share the same passion and a common interest, what makes them a relevant connection for you. Additionally, a face-to-face meeting is much more powerful than a virtual meeting. You can use your body language, which is a major part of your communication and which helps you to conduct conversations, to ensure engagement and to avoid misunderstandings. It’s not only about networking, it is about the quality of connections.

Networking is probably the first aspect that comes to our minds, when we think about the advantages of attending events. But it’s not only about getting to know people and connect on social channels, it’s as well about building trustful and strong relationships. This means attending an event needs a lot of preparation. Not only in terms of how you will present your product or service, but also how you will appear as a person at an event. Remember, you never get the second chance to make a first impression!

4. Become seen as an Expert — Your Product comes second

The focus is not always about your product. In a first step it’s about your company, your team and yourself. You have to find a good balance between setting the focus on you as a person and on your product. Your product can be genius, innovative and beneficial for your target group, but if you don’t give the impression, you are convinced, you will not get the attention your product deserves. Hence, it’s necessary to first gain trust in your person and then in your product, service and company.

Events are the best possibility for this purpose. Position yourself as a speaker and in this way also as a thought leader in your industry: The more people know you, the more you can be seen as an expert.

5. Increasing your ICO’s Visibility — this is essential

The following advice is based on the previous steps I mentioned. This means the primary targets of attending a blockchain event are to sharpen your vision, to get relevant information, to build strong connections and to become seen as an expert. By succeeding in this steps, the visibly of your ICO will almost emerge from itself.

Now it’s your turn to introduce your product or service to the other attendees. People which attend a blockchain events are mainly:

a) Experts in blockchain, entrepreneurs and public speakers,

b) People from international or global companies who plan to implement blockchain in their business,

c) ICO start-ups which want to broader their network and introduce their project,

d) Investors & influencers who look for a project to promote or invest in and last, but not least,

e) Journalists who ensure the online presence of an event and report relevant impressions.

For start-ups it’s a good opportunity to get connected to specific journalists who cover blockchain news. Moreover, you can even get attention for you as an expert or for your project. Not all event organizer arrange media for their events. That’s one reason why you should carefully select which event is worth to attend.

6. Choose relevant Events — don’t waste Time & Money!

When you search for blockchain events, you will find hundreds of events in one year that are somehow related to blockchain and ICOs. When it comes to choose an event, you have to be well organized and think far in advance, especially when you want to position yourself as a speaker. Also, you need time to prepare how you will appear as a person, as an ICO start-up and how you will introduce your product depending on to whom (investors, media, etc.) you will speak at the event. Let’s figure out how to choose a relevant event:

a) Check some numbers: How many attendees are expected? How many speakers will be there?

b) Check the organizer: How much experience does this company have in organizing events? Are blockchain events their main focus? How is the social media presence of the organizer?

c) Check the people: Who are the speakers? Where do they work? Are most of the speakers also blockchain influencers? How is their social media presence? Are there any relevant influencers and investors in general attending the event?

d) Check the media presence: Which media and journalists will attend the event? Is the media reach high or low? Are there important journalists who I should try to connect to?

e) Create the dates: Create a spreadsheet and write down the relevant events and the according information. The best would be to classify them by month and geography. If something else is important to you, feel free to do other classifications.

f) Check the possibilities to apply as a speaker: That is one main reason why you should plan far in advance and be organized. For some blockchain events you can just fill in your personal data on the website, but often you have to apply by introducing yourself and your ICO start-up by e-mail, short video and so one.

Last, but not least: Attending events is fun! You escape from your day-to-day life and your daily business, you gain new experiences, knowledge, meet interesting people and it’s a good investigation for the future of your ICO start-up. To summarize: I would definitely recommend to go crazy about blockchain events!
