A Cubs Fan Makes History

No matter what side you root for (or none of the above), this female fan just went down in the record books.

Regardless of where you stand politically, a woman accepted the presidential nomination of a major party for the first time in American history — and she happens to be a sports fan.

Sure, Hillary Clinton has waffled between rooting for the Cubs and the Yankees, but on Wednesday night, her husband (in his fetching navy pants suit) made a point of pandering to the first-place Cubbies (with their newly acquired and controversial closer Aroldis Chapman) — and ignoring the fourth-place Yanks. (We can’t say we blame him.)

We can, however, blame Charles Barkley for the insensitive remark he made this week that the Golden State Warriors play “little girly basketball.”

We’re glad Jerry Rice put Barkley in his place with his “rings” rebuttal, but no one seems to object to the “girly basketball” comment — which means we’re all so used to digs like this that we ignore the anti-women undertone.

Sir Charles would fit right in at Times Square today, where Dove launched a new campaign that reminds us of the many sexist comments made by the media regarding female athletes. (Remember Serena’s Nipplegate at Wimbledon this year?) Former Olympic gold medalist Shawn Johnson is the star of the campaign.

Back to politics: Repping the sports world at the DNC: The Collins brothers spoke on Monday, where Chelsea Clinton’s college buddy Jason Collins said he came out to the Clinton family before he came out to the media.

And finally, vocal Clinton supporter and anti-Trumper Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will speak tonight in Philly.

Hey, also follow along on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
