He posted his outrage on Instagram. It was his call-to-action to his fellow athletes to stop worrying about endorsement deals and being politically correct, start channeling Jackie Robinson and Muhammad Ali — and take real action. The New York Daily News made it their back cover.

We applaud him for speaking out. And we love that he didn’t try to come up with a solution. We don’t need athletes to come up with the solution. But we do need them to harness the voice of the people so that they can get the attention of smart people who can do something to stem this awful tide.

We weren’t the only ones who weren’t feeling it yesterday. Here’s Daily News Ebenezer Samuel’s take and roundup of athletes’ responses.

Trust us, we were back watching Serena win her 22nd grand slam singles title, tying Steffi Graff, by defeating Angie Kerber in straight sets this morning — and we await the Williams sisters playing doubles later today … then Andy Murray vs. Milos Raonic tomorrow. And we’ll be watching the Euro Cup Final between Portugal and France on Sunday. But we just needed to take a break.
