The Cutest Couple in the Olympic Village
Some time before the best news coming out of Rio is about gold medals for the Gabbys — and after a slew of terrible Olympic update after terrible Olympic update — there is *this* time. During this time, our Olympians are pumped. Their enthusiasm is palpable. They’re ’gramming inspo-filled quotes, Tweeting sunshine and “thank yous” to fans and sending out bright ’n snappy Snapchat stories that make you say Zika what? Dead bodies floating in water who?
Finally, the Road to Rio is literal and we all get to hop into the virtual duffel bags of a curated list of our fave Olympians, where world champ Simone Biles is already sweeping the competition.
Every group has the friend who delays brunch to make you “say hi to Snapchat!” first. That friend on the women’s U.S. gymnastics team is Simone Biles.
From airport selfies to funny videos documenting the first inspection of their Olympic digs, the world champ has introduced us to the cutest “couple” in the Olympic Village so far—herself and teammate-turned-roommate Laurie Hernandez. The Rio roomies took to Simone’s Snapchat on Wednesday (follow along at simonebiles!) to reveal the worst part of the early journey to Rio — their room doesn’t have enough power outlets. Get these girls a power strip.
Besides Zika, the whole “swimming in sh*t” thing and assorted scandals, the biggest Rio-related headache right now (at least for NBC) is how to appeal to an audience that doesn’t watch TV anymore. Sound familiar to you, cable cutters? Enter, TV’s favorite man with a plan, Ryan Seacrest, who tried his darndest, hosting the “Social Olympic Opening Ceremonies” on Tuesday night. We’re sure it’s on your DVR somewhere…
NBC also tried to change the Parade of Nations order for better ratings, but the IOC (rightfully) said GTFO.
Maybe we can just count the views from Simone Biles’ Snapchat in the total number, eh?
