MUST-SEE: From Thursday through Saturday, the inaugural Women Sports Film Festival will take place in Oakland. The Festival screens documentary features and shorts that celebrate women in sports and “the filmmakers who bring their stories to the screen.”

Althea,” a documentary directed by Rex Miller on tennis great Althea Gibson, will screen at the first-ever Women Sports Film Festival.

I’m particularly excited to see “Lift Like a Girl,” about women in the sport of Olympic weightlifting; “Althea,” about tennis great Althea Gibson; and “Luchadora,” which dives into the life of Luna Mágica, a professional Lucha Libre Wrestling star.

Can’t make it to Oakland? Also try and catch ex-NFLer Steve Gleason’s raw, real documentary about his battle with ALS, in select theaters Friday. Get ready to have your heart ripped out.
