Around the Leagues

  • In a move that we honestly don’t quite understand, considering her progressive-leaning decisions in Supreme Court cases, Ruth Bader Ginsburg called the NFL players’ protest by way of kneeling for the anthem “dumb and disrespectful.”
  • In the last A Link of Her Own, we told you Tiger Woods was heading back to competition. Never mind that: now Tiger’s saying he’s withdrawing from the Safeway Open and won’t play in next month’s Turkish Airlines Open. He’s healthy, but he says his game’s not good enough to play against the top golfers in the world right now, which we suppose takes some guts to admit.
  • Unfortunately Sidney Crosby’s good karma from the Penguins’ White House visit sent its evil twin instead, because the reigning NHL Playoff and World Cup of Hockey MVP has been diagnosed with a concussion. Considering it took a few months each for Sid to recover from his last two concussions, coupled with the NHL regular season starting this week, that’s really not good.

Longread of the Day

What NFL players really talk about in the locker room, by someone who used to be one.

Awesome Photo of the Day

Washington NFL owner Daniel Snyder sent players Ricky Jean Francois and Pierre Garcon, who are both of Haitian descent, to the Caribbean country for the day on his private plane so they could help out with Hurricane Matthew recovery. Our hearts, they melt.

Must-Watch Video of the Day

Is it schadenfreude when we’ve all been there? On Sunday, Lakers player D’Angelo Russell was left hanging for a high five so he gave one to himself:
